Mission

WNYC provides the essential public service of independent local journalism and civic information for New York City and the New York-New Jersey metropolitan region – on the radio, online, and through in-person civic dialogue. Founded in 1924 as the municipal radio station of New York City, WNYC is part of the public media organization New York Public Radio, a vital civic and cultural organization for New York City and the metro region. New York Public Radio’s mission is to make the mind more curious, the heart more open and the spirit more joyful through excellent audio programming that is deeply rooted in New York.
