About our journalism
The Border Belt Independent, a nonprofit, online newsroom, covers in-depth, issues-oriented stories in four rural southeastern North Carolina counties.
The Border Belt Independent (borderbelt.org) focuses primarily on challenges and solutions for subjects such as education, poverty, the environment, health, mental health, issues that adversely affect children, race and the economy.
The BBI won 10 North Carolina Press Association editorial contest awards this year, including first place in General Excellence for Websites in the online category.
