Mission
Shoresides is a nonprofit digital news site in Wilmington, North Carolina, is dedicated to reporting on the intersection of community, culture, and power in our region. Our mission is to serve as both an active voice documenting regional stories and a living archive preserving our collective history.
Shoresides was launched in Wilmington, North Carolina, home of the 1898 razing of the Black-owned Daily Record newspaper by white racists. This event sparked a massacre of Black residents and assured the absence of Black media power in the city for a century.
About our journalism
Shoresides focuses on hyperlocal journalism that connects BIPOC communities and addresses critical issues such as clean water, infrastructure, and climate justice. We generate the journalism needed to promote equity and restoration for coastal BIPOC communities.
