Participatory Politics Foundation

Relentlessly uncovering corruption.

Mission

Sludge is an independent, nonprofit news outlet that produces investigative journalism on lobbying and money in politics. We look beyond public records and disclosures to reveal the hidden networks and conflicts of interest that drive systemic corruption.

About our journalism

Sludge is a two-person newsroom primarily supported by small donations from readers. Over the past three and a half years, our reporting has been read by millions of visitors on our website and millions more through republishing agreements with other political news outlets. Some of the impacts of our investigative reporting have included the “Hate Is Not Charitable” campaign of 100 philanthropic organizations against donating to groups designated as hate groups, congressional divestments from fossil fuel industry investments, protests by employees of ad giant Ogilvy over its contracts with the ICE and CBP agencies, and more. Our muckraking stories circulate widely for greater public accountability around money in politics.
