Mission
Uplift Local represents a new kind of participatory journalism that will change how people in our region get news and information. Our work engages communities, rebuilds a sense of place, pushes back on misinformation and diversifies local newsrooms.
Unlike many news startups, our model is based on research. We heard from more than 3,600 people in four languages to understand what they need most from local news. Our research found information gaps everywhere, but most acutely from three groups: rural residents, members of distinct cultural communities those who speak a language other than English.
Uplift Local offers articles and information in the languages people prefer, expands the pipeline of people providing that information, and solves the last-mile gap between the news people need and their ability to access it wherever and whenever they need it.
