Mission

Since 2021, Oregon News Exploration has been identifying gaps in local news and information in Oregon and southern Washington. We found a crisis-level lack of local news and information among rural, linguistic and BIPOC communities in Oregon and southern Washington which are feeling the effects of decades of institutional racism, cultural insensitivity and a divestment in local news.
A year ago, ONE was selected as one of four start-up news operations to join the American Journalism Project’s Local New Incubator and currently is raising funds to launch a small newsroom in January 2025. Guided by our research, we will provide high-quality, community-first reporting to disrupt misinformation and target local information gaps in communities underserved by existing news organizations.
