Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting

Investigative Reporting in the Public Interest

Mission

To deliver fearless, independent, citizen-supported, nonpartisan journalism that informs Mainers about the issues impacting our state and inspires them to take action. Through investigative and in-depth stories, we engage readers to participate and connect to create a better Maine.

About our journalism

The Maine Monitor is a statewide nonprofit , nonpartisan news organization that produces independent investigative and in-depth journalism on issues of importance to the public in Maine. We report on government accountability, public health, the climate and environment, education, and Maine’s people, to name a few topics we cover. By focusing our reporting on investigative and in-depth journalism, The Maine Monitor serves a public interest need and does the stories other Maine newsrooms cannot do as they have reduced staff, particularly in investigative reporting.
