Food & Environment Reporting Network

Independent. Investigative. Non-profit

Mission

The Food & Environment Reporting Network is the first independent, non-profit news organization that produces in-depth and investigative journalism in the critically under-reported areas of food, agriculture, and environmental health. Through partnerships with local and national media outlets, we seek to tell stories that will inspire, inform, and have lasting impact.

About our journalism

The issues FERN covers are at the heart of today’s political, economic and cultural battles. Climate change and mitigation, immigration and farm labor, public health, toxic chemicals, the rural economy, social equity issues, agricultural practices, trade, fisheries regulation, nutrition and water quality all fall within our reporting mandate and grow more contentious with each passing day. FERN provides the editorial expertise to explore, explain and investigate all corners of the food system, as well as to fill gaps in coverage that have arisen due to the ongoing collapse of traditional and new media business models.
