Mission

Chalkbeat is a nonprofit news organization committed to covering one of America’s most important stories: the effort to improve schools for all children, especially those who have historically lacked access to a quality education. Votebeat was created by Chalkbeat to combat a shortage of local reporters devoted to covering voting and election administration in the 2020 U.S. election, and will continue reporting through the 2022 midterms. Votebeat’s goal is to provide nonpartisan local reporting that ensures decisions and debates about voting policy and electoral systems are informed with the highest-quality reporting.
