Bay City News Foundation serves the greater San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California with timely and trustworthy news. We are backed by charitable donations from contributors who care about local news, a free press, democratic values and an informed citizenry. We target geographic and topical news deserts. We collaborate with other media. We experiment with technology. We work with journalism schools to train the next generation of reporters.

Our nonprofit provides trustworthy, verified information to underserved communities and the entire San Francisco Bay Area through data-driven, public-service reporting without charge.
We are focused on local civic news, regional arts and culture, equity issues, inspiring profiles, in-depth packages and environment coverage in the 13-county area.
