The New Humanitarian (TNH) is an independent, non-profit newsroom that believes in journalism as a force for good. We produce fact-based journalism from the heart of conflicts and disasters to build understanding of how to improve the lives of the millions of people affected by humanitarian crises around the world.

About our journalism

Since 1995, TNH has provided original, on-the-ground reporting and expert analysis of humanitarian crises and the trends shaping them. Our award-winning journalism blends insight, innovation, and empathy to improve decision-making, promote transparency, raise public awareness, and create a platform for dialogue with affected and marginalized communities.

TNH fills a critical gap in media coverage by highlighting forgotten crises and consistently examining aid policy and accountability—topics often overlooked by mainstream outlets. We amplify the voices of affected communities, telling the stories they believe can drive change and advocating for decolonizing the aid sector.
